The SPUMS ASM 2025 will be held at the Ramayana Resort Conference Centre, in Bali 18-24 May 2025, with daily morning diving and snorkelling trips provided. SPUMS’ Travel Partner, Diveplanit, has also curated a selection of pre- and post-conference trips within easy reach of Bali.

Diving
Double dive & snorkelling trips to five different dive sites will depart each morning, returning in time to enjoy the included Diver’s Lunch and attend the conference afternoon sessions.

Conference Hotel – Ramayana Candidasa
Ramayana Candidasa is a spacious oceanfront resort located in eastern Bali. The resort is furnished and designed in contemporary Balinese décor and has a variety of room types, each with views of the ocean or lush tropical gardens.

The following room types are available:
These rooms are in the block adjacent the Zen Garden. They are on four levels and for one or two persons in both double and twin configuration. There are four pairs with interconnecting rooms on the ground floor, they are the only interconnecting rooms available.
These are stand alone cottages in a garden setting towards the ocean (but no ocean views), and for one or two persons in both double and twin configuration.
These are also located in the garden and all have a double bed. Some have a fixed sofa which will sleep a child; some additionally have a kitchenette. (Kitchenettes have a large refrigerator and kitchen bench, but are not suitable for cooking as there is no stove, crockery or cutlery.)
These are stand alone cottages in a garden setting with a view of the ocean. They have a king bed and are big enough to take one extra single bed. (Only 5 available).
These rooms are in the block adjacent the Zen Garden. They are on the top level with panoramic garden views and have a king bed. (Only 2 available).
These are located in the garden and all have a king bed in a separate bedroom with a fixed sofa in the lounge which will sleep a child. They also have a kitchenette, but note: kitchenettes have a large refrigerator and kitchen bench, but are not suitable for cooking as there is no stove, crockery or cutlery.) (Only 5 available).
For each night the extra bed or sofa is in use by children or an adult, the following charges apply:

SPUMS 2025 – Practical In Water Sessions
Each morning, minibuses will depart the Ramayana Resort to conduct practical in water diving sessions at various sites around eastern Bali and Nusa Penida/Nusa Lembongan.
Transfers will be provided from and to the Ramayana and second resort only. In most cases, departures will be arranged shortly after breakfast and you will be back at the resort in time for lunch. For some early departures, breakfast may be taken as a carry-out; and bento box lunches may be served if travel times make it too difficult to be back in time for lunch. A Diver’s Lunch is included with each day-trip booked whether diving or snorkeling.
The price of all dive trips includes all transport, two dives with weights, air-filled tanks, dive guides, biscuits and tea/coffee during surface interval, and a Diver’s Lunch.
The price of all snorkeling trips includes all transport, two guided snorkeling sessions, with biscuits and tea/coffee served during your break, and a Diver’s Lunch.
The following trips are available:
This trip includes a 30 min transfer to Padang Bai, followed by a 30-45 min boat trip to the two islands. Dive sites that might be visited include: Manta Point, Crystal Bay, Mangrove, Toyapakeh, Sental, SD Point and Pura Ped. Departure will be at 6am; breakfast will be carry-out.
Snorkel trip: USD 126 per person / Early Bird rate: USD 121
This trip includes a 90 min road transfer to Tulamben for two shore dives. Dive sites that might be visited include the famous USAT Liberty Wreck, Coral Garden, Drop off and Kubu Wreck. Departure will be at 6am; breakfast will be carry-out.
Snorkel trip: USD 104 per person / Early Bird rate: USD 100
This trip includes a 20 min road transfer to Padang Bai, followed by a 30-45 min boat trip to Gili Tepekong, Gili Biaha and Gili Mimpang – islands of the coast of Candidasa. Note this dive for experienced divers only as there is the possibility of strong currents. Departure will be after breakfast at 7am.
This trip includes a 20 min road transfer to Padang Bai, followed by a 10-15 min boat trip to dive sites close by which may include Blue Lagoon, Turtle Neck, Jepun Site and Bias Tugel. Departure will be after breakfast at 7am.
Snorkel trip: USD 126 per person / Early Bird rate: USD 121
This trip includes a 90 min road transfer to Tulamben for two shore dives. Dive sites that might be visited include Japanese Wreck, Jemeluk Bay, Amed Wall and Pyramid Reefs. Departure will be at 6am; breakfast will be carry-out.
Snorkel trip: USD 126 per person / Early Bird rate: USD 121
The following items are NOT included in your dive package. They are available for hire, and must be pre-booked as the dive centre is not onsite.
- Dive gear hire including wetsuit, BCD, regs, mask, snorkel & fins (excluding a computer) = USD 14 per day
- Dive computers are mandatory for multi-day diving and can also be hired = USD 8 per day
- Snorkel gear hire including mask, snorkel & fins (excluding wetsuit – rash vest will suffice) = USD 6 per day
- Nitrox = USD 8 per tank
Requirements will be collected closer to the time of the conference after balance payment.
Gear wash down arrangements will be provided at the Ramayana and second resort.
Please note: there will be no refunds for dives which are weathered off, or where you fail to arrive at reception by the appointed time.
Meals
Breakfast is included within the room rate for all rooms.
SPUMS 2025 Welcome Canapes on Sunday and the Gala Dinner on Friday are included as part of the conference package you have purchased separately.
All dive and snorkel day-trips include an all-you-can-eat Diver’s Buffet lunch. This is to ensure you have time to enjoy a delicious lunch, even after a long morning dive trip and gear wash down, before you go to the afternoon session. For convenience the Diver’s Buffet Lunch can also be purchased separately by all conference participants at USD 30 per day.
An optional evening meal package is also available for purchase with your accommodation and diving. On Wednesday evening, this will be a special Balinese themed buffet, with a Balinese cultural performance at USD 50. On other evenings, a standard buffet meal will be served, priced as follows: 1 Dinner for USD 36, 2 Dinners for USD 69, 3 Dinners for USD 99.
Free flow mineral water will be included with all meals. Breakfast will also include tea and percolated coffee.
A vegetarian option will be provided for all meals. Vegan, Halal and Gluten-free options for individuals can be provided given sufficient notice.
All soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, barista coffees and speciality teas must be purchased.

Komodo – Moana Liveaboard
Moana is a boutique Komodo-focussed liveaboard sleeping 10 passengers and taking divers to the best dive locations in Komodo National Park. Divers will also experience several land-based outings on Rinca, Padar and Komodo Island.

Located in the remote emerging dive destination Halmahera, the so-called ‘New Raja Ampat’ this secluded resort is suitable for divers and snorkelers, with access to over 40 dive sites, including almost a kilometre of house reef.

Alor is renowned for its great visibility, stunning coral reefs, pelagic encounters, and small bizarre critters in the muck sites. From the resort, divers have access to over 40 dive sites within a 30 to 45-minute radius by boat.

Adelaar is a boutique liveaboard, sleeping only 8 passengers, with a brand-new itinerary taking divers to Sumbawa, to a little-known whale shark aggregation at the bagans of Saleh Bay. Suitable for divers and snorkelers.

Here is some general information about Indonesia and Bali. There is also some specific information regarding entry requirements at the bottom that we will direct you to as required. This may be subject to change between now and when required. For now, please note that you need 6 months of passport validity on the date you leave Bali. (If your passport expires prior to 30 Nov 2025 – you will need to renew).
Currency
The currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah. In round numbers AUD 1 = IDR 10,000. Credit cards, US$ and AU$ are widely accepted, obviously less so the further off the beaten track you go. Check with your resort in advance, and carry cash only as required. Local ATM’s will usually dispense local currency against a Visa or Mastercard, but sometimes, with maddening randomness, they won’t. Standard banking hours are from 8 am to 3 pm from Monday to Friday.
The Ramayana accepts credit cards, but not foreign currencies.
Weather
The Indonesian climate is distinctly tropical. The east monsoon from June to September brings dry weather while the west monsoon from December to March is moisture-laden often bringing rain, with the heaviest rainfalls recorded in December and January. The transitional periods between these two, which is when SPUMS will be held, are interposed by occasional rain showers. Humidity varies between 60 and 100%. The average daytime temperature is 28°C, though the hottest part of the day can reach 33°C, and temperatures go down to 23°C at night.
Dress Code
Dress code is casual for both night and day. Pack t-shirts, shorts, light cotton dresses and swimwear. Sunscreens and hats are a must and joggers or sandals are good protection for walking from transport to dive sites. Visitors are asked to be careful not to offend local sensibilities. Wearing bikinis and brief swimming costumes is fine at a resort but not when visiting villages or shopping in town.
Observing Culture
Whilst at the resort, western culture is acceptable – and anything that isn’t will probably be politely pointed out to you. But once travelling around in Indonesia, which has a majority Muslim population, here are a few things you should be aware of: Many Indonesians do not eat pork, or drink alcohol, and hence the concept of toasting with a drink is not practised. Many Indonesian women do not shake hands on greeting; many Indonesian men will shake hands with both hands. During Ramadan, many Indonesian will fast during daylight hours, or certainly not eat in public. Eating, drinking and even smoking in public during this time can be considered impolite at best. It is considered very rude to get angry, but not, for example, to stare. Don’t point with your index finger, try to remember to use your thumb.
Health
We recommend you take precautions against being bitten by mosquitoes, including using insect repellent, wearing long light coloured and loose-fitting clothing. Tap water is not safe to drink. We have ensured that water-cooler refill stations are provided around the resort, at the restaurant and in the conference centre so you can refill your own water bottle. You may wish to bring two: one for your room and one to keep with you.
It’s handy to have a stainless steel water bottle, as you can fill that with boiled water, seal it, cool it in a sink of cold tap water, and then put it in the fridge.
In the event of a medical emergency, contact the local emergency services on 118. Even if you suspect a decompression related injury, go through your local emergency services. You can additionally call the DAN International emergency hotline +1-919-684-9111. There are decompression chambers in Bali, Jakarta, Manado, Makassar and Kalimantan.
Telecommunications and Electricity
WiFi is available in the resort and conference centre and should be of a reasonable bandwidth as long as you are not steaming movies.
Telephone numbers within Indonesia may have between 5 and 8 numbers depending on how old the exchange in that location is. Add to this the area code, and it can get pretty confusing – so always double check the digits and the number of digits if someone gives you a number verbally. The International access code varies depending on the telephone company used by the hotel.
The resort has international multi-sockets. If you are taking many devices you may wish to take a 4-way Australian power board too. You can also get multi-cord USB adaptors which allow you to charge multiple mobile devices via a single USB power adaptor. Power points through Indonesia generally are 220-240 volts AC 50Hz with the European two round pins. (Type C, E and F).
Tipping
In Indonesia generally, most hotels will add a 10% surcharge to your bill. In restaurants, where no surcharge has been added, 5-10% is the norm.

Visa and Arrival Requirements
For the purposes of Tourism, there are two options:
1. Visa on Arrival = just that – get a Visa when you arrive in Bali
International travellers must present all requirements for the VOA at the immigration counter on arrival on Indonesia, namely:
- A passport with validity period of at least 6 (six) months;
- A return ticket or a connecting ticket to continue travelling to another country;
- Proof of non-tax revenue payment in case of applying for a VOA for tourism purpose (IE Travel Voucher, Hotel Voucher/Receipt)
Foreigners can apply for VoA at the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) counter located before immigration in the arrival hall. They can pay with US Dollars and Rupiah, or request currency change first if unavailable.
Visa on Arrival subjects can extend the VoA for only once, it is valid for the next 30 days.
Visa on Arrival costs Rp. 500.000 for 30 days and could be extended for another 30 days upon request to a local Immigration Office in Indonesia (charge may be applied). Payment can be done by: Visa Card, Master Card, Debit Card or Cash in IDR or Foreign Currency.
Visa on Arrival applies to citizens of 43 countries including Aus, NZ, UK, US, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore
Visa on Arrival is only possible at certain airports – the list includes Bali, Jakarta and North Sulawesi.
2. e-Visa on Arrival (eVOA) = Apply online in advance and get a EVOA as a PDF
The Visa On Arrival (eVOA) also lasts 30 days.
For this – B1 30 Day visa – you will need:
- A picture of your passport on your phone to upload;
- Unfortunately you also need this as a PDF to prove it has more than 6 month validity on it; so save as a PDF as well.
- A portrait selfie to upload; make sure you have 2 inches clear space above your head and 4 inches below your chin
Start the application and complete any information that the scanning software has not managed to pick up from the passport image – check it got the details right even if you get a green tick; if they are wrong abort and start again – you cannot change them down the track.
Full Address of your hotel is: Jl. Raya Sengkidu, Sengkidu, Kec. Manggis, Kabupaten Karangasem, Bali 80801, Indonesia. Tip: Key in the Postcode First – it autofills the rest; then add the street name.
The rest is obvious – but there are a lot of “Please check” and “Are you sure?”
Finally you will get you EVOA as a PDF.
The eVOA can be extended at any Immigration Office. (You’ll need local help to get you there during office hours). The e-VOA can be extended whilst you are in the country on line.
Digital Customs Declaration
As of September 1, 2023 there is a new electronic customs declaration procedure in effect for all international airports in Indonesia. The e-CD form for Indonesia requires travelers to declare any goods they will bring into the country. This then decides which customs channel the passenger should pass through, and helps Indonesian customs to carry out any required checks.
This is a mandatory requirement, there are no paper forms available – visitors must complete the Customs Declaration form online. If you arrive in Indonesia and go to the customs checking area without the QR code you will be asked to go and complete the form and queue again.
The form can be completed up to 3 days before arrival in Jakarta, Denpasar or Manado. One form per family is allowed. Once completed, you will be issued a QR code which you can save to your phone, or print it out.
Bali Tourist Levy
Starting February 14, 2024, the Bali Provincial Government introduced a new tourism levy for visitors to Bali. This levy, amounting to a one-time payment of 150,000 IDR per person when in Bali, is strongly recommended by officials to be paid before arrival.
Payment Methods: Only cashless payments are accepted. These include credit cards, bank transfers, or virtual accounts through the “Love Bali App” or the Love Bali website.
Airport and Port Counters: Payment facilities are available at Bali’s airports and seaports. Here, visitors can conveniently pay the levy, receive a QR Code as proof of payment, and present this code to authorised officials after passing through immigration. Clients without a QR code will be directed to a provided counter.
The levy is a one-time payment per visit to Bali. This fee does not apply to subsequent internal travels within Indonesia. That means travelling within Indonesia and returning to Bali does not incur a second payment. However, leaving Indonesia and returning to Bali requires visitors to pay the fee again.
