Sangat Island Dive Resort occupies nearly the entire southwestern cusp of Sangat Island. The resort has 22 native-styled, ecologically “low-impact” accommodations, along with restaurant and bar facilities, and an internationally-renowned scuba diving centre.
Sangat Island is entirely off the public electricity grid, boasting complete independence in electricity and water supply. Committed to green and clean practices, we harness Solar power as our primary renewable energy source. Sangat Island Resort proudly stands as the only resort in the Philippines that is 100% powered by Solar energy. The 74 KW solar power system efficiently powers the entire resort, including all air compressors, the desalination plant (fresh water source), ice makers, and refrigeration. Diesel powered generators are maintained solely as backup.
Fringed by a 300m span of white sand beachfront, with postcard-perfect tropical waters and vibrant coral reef gardens, Sangat Island Dive Resort has swiftly become a favoured destination for eco-conscious travellers and scuba diving enthusiasts worldwide.
A unique highlight for divers is the island’s proximity to 11 WWII wrecks. Of these, 10 are historically significant Japanese War and Supply ships, sunk during the “Battle of Coron Bay” in 1944. Eight wrecks lie just a 5 to 30-minute boat ride from our beachfront.
The open-air, beach-front restaurant and two bars offer a great selection of regional and international dishes, along with a variety of beverages, served throughout the day and evening. In addition to a fixed buffet meal schedule, afternoon snacks are offered daily at the restaurant, where you can also help yourself to our tea and coffee station at your convenience.
Sangat Island Dive Resort has a range of native-styled accommodations including Beachfront Cottages, Beachside Chalets, Hillside Cottages, family-friendly Bungalow Suite units, Hilltop Chalets, and the tri-level, mezzanine, Lambingan Villa with a private, white sand beachfront.
Each accommodation has been constructed using local techniques and materials like hand-woven bamboo wall panels, split-bamboo flooring, and Nipa Palm roofing. All units are well-ventilated with mosquito-netted windows, ceiling fans, ample lighting, 220-volt electrical outlets, and wet-room styled bathroom facilities.
Beachside Chalets
10 beachside chalets offer a 6×7 m living/bedroom area with two double-beds, spacious western-styled bathroom facilities and a bay-view terrace.
Hillside Chalets
10 hillside chalets feature a spacious 6×7 m living and bedroom area with two double beds, large mosquito-netted windows for natural ventilation, and ceiling fans to keep you cool. The chalets also offer wet-room style bathrooms, ample lighting, 220-volt electrical outlets, and a generous terrace. Nestled at the base of semi-timbered limestone cliffs, they provide a lush, forested environment that is both tranquil and often filled with the soft melodies of tropical birds in the morning.
Sangat Island Resort’s knowledgeable team and PADI instructors will guide you in equipment selection, course options, and dive site recommendations. Unlike most dive facilities which use native outriggers, Sangat employs a virtual fleet of immaculately maintained, scuba-specific dive craft to ferry our guests to and from various dive locations in the utmost of safety and comfort, by fastest means possible.
Sangat Island Dive Resort has a comprehensive on-site dive facility fitted-out with all the equipment you’ll need for any underwater adventure during your stay. Newly rebuilt in 2018, the facility offers a wide range of first-quality equipment (tanks, wet suits, masks, fins, dive computers, and more) from internationally recognised manufacturers as well as an air and Nitrox filling station (powered by dual BAUER K14 compressors) and a brand new LW 280 unit which is combined with a 280 Coltrisub nitrox membrane.
Technical Diving
For those interested in plumbing the deeper depths of Coron Bay, there are plenty of locations in and around Sangat which offer many exciting opportunities – particularly WWII wreck sites – for those with wreck and/or technical diving experience and certification.
Since the majority of neighbouring wrecks have settled at a depth of 25 to 40 meters, most are still in quite good condition and penetrations are possible for experienced technical and wreck divers.
Sangat Island Dive Resort offers virtually all of the facilities and equipment any technical diver might need including an on-site Nitrox membrane filling station, O2-clean 12-liter twin tanks, O2-clean 6-liter stage bottles, O2-clean regulators, dive harness with double first stages, stainless-backed technical wings, O2 booster pumps, soda sorb for re-breathers, and more.
Dive Conditions
Fed by the tropical tides of the South China Sea, Coron Bay has year-round water temperatures ranging from 28 to 30 degrees. 3mm to 5mm wetsuit recommended.
Dive visibility in and around Coron Bay typically varies according to tidal strength but generally ranges between 7 and 30 meters. Maximum water clarity is generally encountered during a 1/4 to 3/4 moon phase; During a full or new moon, water visibility is somewhat reduced but never enough to spoil a dive.
Dive destinations located close to the open ocean waters (such as the Nanshin Maru Wreck off of the coast of Black Island and Cathedral Cave at the southern tip of Coron Island) and land-locked bodies of water (such as the geothermal waters of Barracuda Lake) have the best dive visibility – typically 20-meters and more.
