Spice Island Divers is a purpose-built dive resort offering superior levels of both accommodation and dive facilities in Ambon. Situated in the village of Laha, this peaceful beachfront property consists of 14 bungalows situated amongst an array of mature trees which are adjacent to the large dive shop and open waterfront restaurant.
Set amongst tropical gardens, the resort features a restaurant and a small beach front spa area, plus sun loungers to relax on after diving. The on-site dive centre operates daily activities and features a purpose built camera room with individual stations. Diving here is in small groups, with a maximum of four per guide.
The resort was built to have minimal impact on the environment, the bungalows positioned so that none of the mature trees on the property had to be felled. There is an open-air dining area right on the beach serving an Indonesian-focused menu, using local, seasonal produce flavoured with spices from the surrounding islands. The menu is a delightful array of Indonesian-style dishes, showcasing some of Maluku’s tastiest dishes.
Just minutes from the airport, it’s possible to be diving within one hour of the touchdown, if divers are so dedicated.

The PADI affiliated dive centre operates daily diving activities and features a purpose built camera room. Whilst there are colourful reefs and a wreck to explore, the main underwater highlights are the high number of amazing critters, some of which are unique to the area.
Away from the crowds, macro enthusiasts can expect plenty of underwater highlights, not least in the ‘Twilight Zone’, one of the most sought after dive sites in Ambon Bay. Hidden amongst the piers, inside discarded debris, along the sand and coral, the biodiversity and concentration of critter life here is incredible. Expect to see Ambon scorpionfish, frogfish, crabs, shrimp, seahorse, octopus, blennies, moray eels, rhinopia, pipefish and plenty of nudibranchs.
Equipment rental, 15 litre tanks and courses are available. Local surcharges apply to some dive sites. Nitrox is complimentary for qualified divers. Average water temperature is 26°C, and visibility 15 metres in the bay.
