Triton Bay Divers is one of the most remote dive resorts in the world, offering guests the chance to dive among the most fish and coral species on the planet. The first and only resort in Triton Bay, guests are sure to enjoy the secluded bungalows as they experience world-class diving.
Triton Bay is one of three regions that comprise the Bird’s Head Seascape (the other two being Raja Ampat and Cenderawasih Bay), which is now considered by marine biologists to be the epicentre of the Coral Triangle and which contains more fish and coral species than anywhere else on the planet.
Guests can feel at one with nature while they enjoy their meals in the spacious and open-air dining room. The resorts serves three delicious meals and a local snack in the afternoon. There is also free coffee, tea and water available. Soft drinks and beer are also available at the bar.
The resort operates sustainably and has built the resort using natural local materials which blend in with the tropical surroundings. Any wood from trees that had to be removed has been utilised elsewhere throughout the resort using local craftsmen and traditional techniques while still allowing for a modern touch.
We think…
Triton Bay Divers’ amazing location delivers an amazing diving experience with unique access to remote Indonesian waters, diving everything from wonderpuss to whale sharks.
Triton Bay Divers is located approximately 30 nautical miles from the town of Kaimana in the Indonesian province of West Papua. Currently the best route to Triton Bay is to fly via Jakarta to Kaimana (KNG), West Papua, transiting in Sorong or Manokwari. Flights to Kaimana originating in Jakarta usually depart between 10pm and midnight and arrive in Sorong or Manokwari in the morning. From these two places it is a short flight to Kaimana. Cut off time for transits to the resort is 2pm. The earliest flight for your departure is 10am.
The resort currently has six beach front bungalows, and two garden bungalows with a partial sea view, each able to sleep two people comfortably. Four of the bungalows can accommodate three guests if necessary. Each room is equipped with a large ceiling fan and designed with ‘natural’ air conditioning in mind. There is a desk with extra (220v) power sockets (24-hour electricity available), allowing you to download and view your photos whilst charging your camera in preparation for your next day of diving.

Diving in Triton Bay is a world-class experience that only a few divers know about. It has been called “the next frontier of Indonesian diving” and the “last best place.”
The area already has over 30 dive sites and has many more yet to be discovered. The dive sites can contain pinnacles, shallow soft coral gardens, huge boulders draped in colourful corals, and nearly everything in between. There are also opportunities for critter hunting. Triton Bay’s soft coral have been gaining attention recently, with some suggesting that it rivals Fiji, the soft coral capital of the world.
Triton Bay is also home to most, if not all, of the marine creatures found in other parts of Indonesia. Whether it be pygmy seahorses or whale sharks, the region has it all. Pods of dolphins and marlin have also been spotted near traditional fishing bagans. In addition, the region also boasts several species that can be found nowhere else.
The dive centre is located at the far end of the beach and is fully equipped to meet all your diving needs. It has a personal storage area where you can store your dive equipment during your stay.
With 30 known dives sites around Triton Bay and possibly just as many yet to be discovered, here is an overview of what you can expect to find in Triton Bay. The better known of these sites were discovered by the Conservation International survey team in 2006, but there are a few discovered by resort staff, and more being discovered all the time.
Saruenus Island
Locally nicknamed “Pintu Arus”, Pulau Arus (current island), is a small island just 5 minutes boat ride from the resort and offers an amazing diving experience. The most well-known dive site is Little Komodo where the huge boulders nearly break the surface with soft corals and schools of anthias, damsel fish, and fusiliers. Deeper down, schools of sweetlips and snapper hang out in the black coral bushes, hunting jacks as well as wobbegong can also be found here.
Macro photographers can also find several different species of pygmy seahorse as well as nudibranchs and shrimp. When the currents are playing nicely, you can gently drift along a beautiful soft coral covered wall and end your dive in Aquarium.
Aquarium is best dived in the morning when the waters are nice, calm and glassy on top to make the most of your reflection shots. It’s a small dive site but boasts beautiful soft coral bommies and loads of schooling fish.
If you are looking for a little more action (conditions permitting) you can enjoy a drift dive along the western side at Pintu Arus, however currents can get crazy with eddies so timing on this dive site is everything. The soft coral gardens cover the wedding cake tiered reef like a carpet, and divers are often joined by a giant grouper as well as schools of fusilier and anthias playing in the current.
Bo’s Rainbow
Another dive site very close by is Bo’s Rainbow which has huge soft coral covered boulders with schools of fish. A relatively shallow dive, bottoming out into a gentle sandy slope at 16m it is perfect for both wide angle or macro. There is also a shallow swim through cutting through the middle of the island
White Rock and Macro Rocks
White Rock can be dived day or night and should be named Candy Crab City. Covered with soft coral bushes it is a gentle sloping reef bottoming out at around 14 meters. This is mainly a macro site, but wobbegong sharks and frogfish have also been spotted. Macro Rock is mostly white sand bottom down to 20m, and is great for subjects like nudibranchs especially early in the season when the water temperature is cooler.
Andy’s Point
This dive site is always full of surprises, expect to see anything from yellow fin barracuda, squadrons of bumphead parrot fish, large schools of anchovies being hunted, devil rays cruising by, wobbegong sharks as well as solar powered nudis and pygmy seahorses. Most notable is that the black coral here is more prodigious than anywhere else in Triton Bay!.
Batu Jatuh
Batu Jatuh is Indonesian for “Fallen Rocks” and was so named for the massive boulders that rolled into the ocean not long ago. The site has very large hard coral gardens and is home to a large school of bat fish as well as hunting jacks, midnight snapper, bumphead parrot fish and napoleon wrasse. Divers are sometimes surprised by mobula rays, eagle rays as well as the odd manta.
Flasher Beach
Flasher Beach is located on an island outside of Triton Bay, 30 minutes away. It was named because of the beautiful Flasher Wrasse that are seen here. Flasher wrasse are the most colourful of all reef fish and are so named because of the mating displays by males during the late afternoon
TBD House Reef
Discover some great macro life on both of house reef sites. Flasher Wrasse, Saron/Marble Shrimp, Harlequin shrimp as well as the LSD/Picturesque dragonet and mandarin fish.Bob tail squid, starry octopus and walking sharks can also be seen on night dives.
Boulders
Just 15 minutes from the resort is a site with large boulders covered with sea fans and soft corals, beautiful for wide angle with schools of different species of glass fish and fusiliers, the rocks break the surface a low tide. It is also a great site for macro as several different species of pygmy seahorses can be found here.
Christmas Rock
Another signature dive site, Christmas Rock is a small island south of Aiduma. It is not a large dive site, but big bushes of black coral, wonderful soft coral covered bommies, and schools of snapper and surgeonfish can be found here.
