Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you can’t find the answer here, just ask your question below in comments, and we’ll answer it.
Q: iPad user: I search for it on my iPad but it doesn’t come up?
A: Diveplanit is not an iPad App but the iPhone version runs on an iPad. Download it directly using this link from your iPad.
Q: How do I get the Diveplanit App?
A: Click here to download Diveplanit free from the App Store.
Q: Why does the Diveplanit App need to access my Facebook friends list?
A: It allows you to post an invitation on your Page to invite your Facebook friends to try Diveplanit.
Q: I don’t want a social media platform – I just want a dive log book – how do I ensure my dive details are kept private?
A: If you set your Profile Privacy Settings to ‘private’ – none of your dive details will be visible to anyone other than you (and any buddies who you have specifically allowed to follow you).
Your dive logs will not appear in the public Scubafeed; they will only be visible under your Profile. This does not stop you using the rest of the App, including Fish ID. You can still post your dives to your Facebook or Google+ pages.
Q: Where is my personal divelog book?
A: All your dives are listed under your profile, whether you shared them publicly or not. To see them on a map, tap the Pin next to your name.
Q: Can snorkelers use it?
A: Yes. Because you can create a new ‘dive site’ exactly where you are, you can create something like ‘Ifiri Reef Snorkel’ and log any pictures against that location. When you go into your Profile, you’ll be able to see exactly where you’ve snorkelled.
Q: What platforms is it available on?
A: The Diveplanit App is currently available on all variants of iPhones, from and including iPhone 4, and all iPads, running iOS v7.1 or higher. And actually, if you want to use it just as an on-line Divelog – using an old iPad is not a bad option.
Q: When will it be available on Android?
A: When we’ve ironed out the functionality on iOS and funds allow. (If you want to start crowd-funding the Android version – we’ll chip in!)
Q: I can’t post to Facebook / Google+ / Twitter
A: Check under Logging On, on this page. Multiple accounts might be the issue.
Q: Where are the Americas and European countries?
A: At Diveplanit – we do want to serve diving to the whole planet … but we have to start somewhere. We’ll be tackling other regions in due course. You can create a dive site anywhere you please, using the Country ‘Unlisted country’ and Region ‘Unlisted region’. We will be watching where new dive sites are created and will add new countries according to demand…
Q: There are too many random posts in my Scubafeed – what are my options?
A: You can set your Scubafeed to ‘Buddies’ – then you will only see the people who you are following. Use the funnel icon top left on your Scubafeed. There are a list of featured users here.
Q: I don’t want to see someone’s posts anymore – what are my options?
A: You can block them: go to their profile and tap the ‘Block User’ symbol in the top right corner.
Q: How do I get the pictures onto my iPhone or iPad?
A: There are a number of ways depending on your circumstances. Have a look at the options on our Tips & Tricks Page.
Q: I exported my dive log but the file looks like garbage. Help!
A: The format uses the ‘|’ symbol to separate the fields – which may contain a comma – that’s why ‘comma separated variables’ format is not used. Have a look at our Tips & Tricks Page for detailed instructions on how to load the file into Excel.
Q: When will it handle video?
A: We’re planning to include that in a release soon. It will probably be limited to a 10-14 second clip though. If you include a YouTube clip link in the comment, that will reveal asa hyperlink if you post to Facebook or Google+
Q: I’ve been keeping my dives logged in a spreadsheet / Word doc / other software; can I upload into Diveplanit?
A: No. Sorry. Might be available in a future release, but there are a lot of formats…
Q: How can I see who I’m following?
A: You can see who you are following by tapping the word following in your profile header. You can unfollow these people by tapping on the word following to unfollow them.
Q: How can I follow more people?
A: Use the search function to search for divers. Once you have found the diver you are interested in press the right chevron > next to their name and then tap the profile symbol in their profile header to the right of the word followers.
Q: How can I see who is following me?
A: You can get a list of your followers by tapping the word followers in your profile header. You also have the option to follow them back.
You can see your followers’ posts by tapping the profile symbol to the right of the word followers in your profile header.
Q: Why are all dive sites not listed?
A: We have to start somewhere. Most of the most popular dive sites should be listed. We are adding more all the time. If your favourite dive site is not listed just add it, and we’ll list it. We might even ask to use your image on this site’s Profile page (and credit you). Because dive sites are being updated all the time – this is a good reason to accept Diveplanit updates.
Q: Why are the details on each site so brief?
A: Rather than build a database of the details of all the sites – which are subject to conditions and diver experience – you can actually see much more by viewing other people’s logs and pictures. We will however, be expanding the dive site profile to include a few basic details.
Q: How to I change my user profile picture?
A: You can tap anywhere in this space on your user Profile Header. This will bring up the option to use your Camera or a photo from your Camera Roll. Your circular profile picture is about 1/5 of the width of the image that you create or select and the central portion of it. So you may need to play around a little with an image to get your icon the right size and centred in the circle.
Q: Why do I keep getting no results when I’m searching?
A: You can search for dive sites and dive centres within countries, and also within regions. For example; if you select Australia and commence searching you may or may not find what you’re looking for. However if you then start to look for a dive site in Fiji and you haven’t pressed the left chevron in the top left-hand corner to exit the Australian dive sites section, then you will continue to get no hits. So check to see whether there is a chevron in the top left-hand corner and if there is tap it to get back to the top level and start searching again.
Q: I’ve got some ideas about what you should include to make it even better…
A: Please leave us a comment below – then other people can comment and we can really see what everyone wants from the App.
Back to App Home page.
It would be great if I could store my dive qualifications somewhere; even flag my qualifying dives…
This design is spectacular! You obviously know how to
keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved
