Site Type: | Scenic Reef |
Depth: | Top: 5M Median: 15M Bottom: 28M |
Location: | Located off a small beach on first approach to Menjangan Island, a short distance to the Ghanesha Temple which is on the point to the right of the dive site |
On the south eastern corner of Menjangan Island Bali, the Pos 1 dive site (presumably named as “Position 1” – the first discovered dive site), starts with a very shallow reef but then drops away abruptly as a vertical wall. There is not much to see on top for snorkelers, but plenty for divers between 10 to 28 metres.
The wall features lots of very large Gorgonian fans, some about 2m in diameter.
There are also many prickly looking sponges.
Large schools of fusiliers swim up and down the wall while anthias and damsels hover around the fans and feather stars.
Expect to see the odd bat fish, bannerfish and quite a few bright yellow anemones.
Look closely for porcelain crabs on the anemones and you’ll likely find a few nudibranchs as well.
Under the overhangs there are also large pipe-shaped sponge corals – so perfectly formed they almost look man-made.
