Site Type: | Shark Dive |
Location: | Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico |
On the eastern edge of the Yucatán Peninsula, Playa del Carmen is a great jump-off point for pelagic encounters with bull sharks and diving beautiful reefs and wrecks of the Caribbean Sea and nearby Cenotes cave system, Banco Chinchorro and Xcalak Biosphere reserve.

From November to March, large bull shark females arrive in Playa del Carmen in order to breed.

At this time of year, bull sharks are commonly found off the coast, and many other pelagic species are attracted to the area by the slightly cooler temperatures during the winter months.

The cooler waters found in the winter months tend to attract more pelagic animals than other months.
