Biodiversity #13: Octopus

Biodiversity#13: Octopus. A cephalopod mollusc of the order Octopoda, literally meaning ‘eight-foot’. Their bodies have no internal or external hard parts and they have been known to squeeze through very small apertures – mainly in order to escape! Octopus are highly intelligent and have demonstrated problem-solving skills and memory. They are even known to use tools, such as coconut shells, for defence. They also use expulsion of ink, camouflage, their ability to jet quickly through the water in defending themselves from predators. Like cuckoos they have an obsession for shiny things! You will see them all around Australia. There’s one I know personally at Clifton Gardens.
